The Football Attic Kit Podcast 10 - Hummel

At long last, it's time to bring you the first in our occasional series, Kit Brands. In episode 10, we're turning our attention towards Hummel, the Danish (or German, as we soon discover) manufacturer of wonderfully stylish and diverse kits for teams the world over.

And thanks to you, we've got lots to discuss as we not only look back at the history of Hummel but also read out many of your comments about those great Hummel kits of the past and present.

Also features a mention of Enver Hoxha, communist leader of Albania from 1944 until 1985...

When it comes to this week's Kit Off vote, what better than to draw our inspiration from Hummel again? We've got the Denmark away shirts from three successive European Championships, and as ever, we'd like you to cast your vote on the one you like best - details below.

To hear Episode 10 of the Football Attic Kit Podcast, you can subscribe to us on iTunes or you can download the podcast here. Thanks for listening!

ADDITIONAL INFO

During the Hummel discussion, we mentioned Mexico's kit as worn against Brazil in 1980. Here's a still from the video which you can watch on YouTube in its entirety.

The chevrons looked like Hummel's but in fact they belong to Pony.

  1. I bought the Dunfermline 92-94 Hummel shirt you mention for my brother, I tried to find the phone number for their club shop but couldn't so rang the main switchboard. They advised there was no club shop but Parker Sports in the High Street was the place to go.

I ordered a shirt, posted off a cheque that night and to my astonishment the shirt, a complementary mug and car sticker arrived the next day, they didn't wait for the cheque, let alone for it to clear.
Not something you'd expect to see in this day and age.

  2. This was a great pod as I didn't know much about Hummel, including their German origins. Looking forward to exploring this brand, especially Rich's premise that they can be amazing or crap.

  3. Another cracking pod chaps,
do you remember Alan Ball's white Hummel boots that were so uncomfortable that they ended up painting his Adidas ones white?
wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year

  5. What was unusual about the Spurs 87-89 shirt is that there were no chevrons on it at all. Others with the same template did like Wales, Real Madrid etc.
